Summary
Dr Skidmore has extensive experience in upper gastrointestinal tract surgery and surgery for obesity. He attended Melbourne Boys High School before going to the University of Melbourne obtaining his medical degree.
After medical school, he trained at the Austin hospital in General Surgery before travelling to the UK and further training with Shaw Somers, a world renowned upper gastrointestinal and obesity surgeon. Shaw was the star of the Discovery Channel documentary, The Fat Doctor.
After returning to Australia in 2007, he has established a practice that specialises in diseases of the oesophagus, stomach, gallbladder and obesity. He has also performed a large number of keyhole hernia repairs. He is a mentor for a number of surgeons for the sleeve gastrectomy operation and also the keyhole hernia operation.
Currently he is studying for his MBA at the University of Melbourne. He continues to present papers and lectures to both students and other doctors. He is currently completing a major review on Barrett’ss oesophagus.
